Hermès History
You may be asking what makes Hermès so spectacular and special? It all goes back to 1837 when Thierry Hermès started making fine horse saddles and equestrian accessories. From the start the company used the finest leathers. Hence, why their leather goods and bags are desired items. In 1880 the workshop moves to 24 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, 75008 Paris, France . The luxury designer brand is still located there today, and it is where I made my first Hermès purchase.
In 1922, the first Hermès leather bag is designed, and by 1978 the Birkin bag is introduced. Today, it is the world’s most expensive, desired hand bag. It retails on average around $20,000, but can go up to $300,000! Needless to say, I did NOT purchase a Birkin bag, nor will I ever.
This is a Birkin, in the signature Hermès orange. They are handmade in limited quantities due to their laborious design and high quality.
Hermès and Me
Here I am waiting for the salesman to come back out from a hidden door with what I desire to try on! If you can’t tell from my giant smile I was super excited and happy to be at Hermès!
I spent months researching what I wanted to invest in. Since it is such an important fashion brand, I wanted something that was instantly recognizable as Hermès and reflected their history. Plus, I wanted it to be something I can wear everyday. I narrowed it down to jewelry, then further to 2 ring options. I had to try both on to choose the perfect one.
Option 1: Inspired by the Kelly bag, named after Grace Kelly. I thought it was going to be the one, but it actually looked too heavy on my petite hand.
Option 2: A perfect fit and representation of Hermès. The design is reminiscent of the Collier de Chien designed to protect hunting dogs back in the day. The Collier de Chien ring is a “feminine update to this iconic collection.”
I was just as excited for the shopping bag and box as the ring! All are keepsakes to me. I love how Hermès always uses the color orange. They stay true to their roots with their equestrian logo, reminding everyone how the company started as a fine saddle maker.
Now, it’s time to reveal my gorgeous Collier de Chien Rock ring. To me it is much more than a ring. It is a piece of fashion history.
The outside is finely engraved with “Hermès Paris.”
I am thrilled with my Hermès purchase. I’ve worked hard and saved for this fine piece of jewelry. It is an investment piece I will get a lot of wear out of. Like always I am all about classic, versatile pieces. This way you get more bang for your buck! I am confident the Collier de Chien Rock ring made from sterling silver will never go out of style, making it a perfect B.E. Style accessory.
What do you think? What’s that one special piece in your wardrobe?
love Hermes
